About Me
Hello,
I'm Sheri. Thanks for your interest in my blog. I decided to start this to give people real information on modern homesteading. I need to be clear on this, I am not off grid. Nor do I want to be. I love the luxuries of running water, septic systems, and electricity. This is one thing that many people confuse with homesteading. Being off grid is for the brave. I have been off grid and I don't ever want to do it again.
My husband and I have waged that war. We both agree it is not for everyone, including us. That being said, we were willing to give up everyday luxuries to get to where we are today. Debt Free! I hope to educate people who are considering buying small acreage or a homestead as to what you might be up against. It's not easy but it is extremely rewarding.
Even now, our homestead is not done. We live in a 608 sq ft guest house as our big home sits unfinished. We will get there but we are not willing to take a loan to do this at this point. We love not owing anyone.
A little history on me and my husband, Eugene. We have been together for 17 years and married for 7 now. We started off flipping houses and remodeling old homes which also is not for the faint of heart. We are now down to our home and property. We did this for years, and I have to say it wears on you. Physically, mentally, and emotionally. There is always big money riding on it. It's exciting alright, but it also can wipe you out. We have been very lucky but like many people in real estate, we have also lost money.
I grew up in a little town here in Idaho. I am born and raised here. I grew up on a small homestead on the river and in those days we just called it a farm. Yes a homestead is a fancy name for a farm. I have always loved animals, gardening, harvesting, and preserving our own food. As I grew up I got away from this as many farm kids do. Then one day we wake up. Look around and think what are we doing? We know we need to be prepared, we know we need to be self sufficient, we know that the land can take care of us, not big brother, and if you understand that how we all have been living is wrong then you are getting it. We have gotten away from our roots, from nature, from a simple life.
So as time went on circumstances pushed us onto this homestead not by choice but necessity. Long story short we wouldn't change a thing. Now it's still a bit of shock to my husband who was born and raised in the city of Portland, Oregon. He's coming round and enjoying a simple life as we now see the breakdown of society.
So here we are today, in love with the country even after all the struggles. I hope you can learn from some of our mistakes which I will write about and share, along with great things we have discovered and fine tuned. So thanks again and stay tuned for all the great things I have to share.

Here is our 2 year build to what we have now on our guest house. It's always fun looking back and seeing how far we've come!
