You know me, I love a good story. I also believe in designs that tell a story. Recently the National Oldtime Fiddlers' Contest and Festival held a logo contest for their 70 year anniversary.
I entered and I won. I wanted to the logo to tell a story. One of our long history in our small town of Weiser, Idaho. The logo was designed to be simple and yet tell the story of what the festival is really about, and it's home. Weiser! It's been a long tradition, one that my Grandmother loved. And in her honor I hope I did her proud. I love a good story! Enjoy! There's more stories to come~ Sheri... Windy Flat Farm.

Welcome to the new look of Windy Flat Farm! Over the last couple of weeks, I've been working on some upgrades, starting with my office. I've got everything tore up. My desk is supposed to be here today, and I'm still waiting. I had our internet upgraded and our dish moved so I can connect in my new office. I've also been working on the look of Windy Flat Farm. Please forgive the new Facebook page. They high jacked my page when they switched to a business account and I cannot do basic things in it. So a new page we got. You can find us in the link bellow. You'll notice the new logo and look. I wanted to have a real connection to our logo. In the background you'll find Indianhead Mt. It's a view in many of the photos that I post. I love that it sits in our back yard and is such a beautiful view to enjoy anytime of year!
I hope you like the new look. I know we do! Stay tuned much more to come. Sheri...Windy Flat Farm We have been very busy getting things ready for the next phase here at the homestead. Plumbing supplies are here for the rough-in plumbing, and now we are waiting on our friend to finish up a project who is coming to help us do the plumbing ourselves. A side from plumbing, we also purchased a new car. It's been a long time coming. We've waited over 7 years to purchase a new vehicle. Since we were down to only one truck, it was time to make the move. We did great, bought a 2022, new- used demo with full factory warranty and only 3,000 miles on it. We couldn't be happier. I'm so glad to be back in Subaru. Dependable and long lasting. I have the best husband ever! He jumped right in and took to finding us a car and buying the one I wanted. All our hard work has been paying off. We are truly blessed. Now that we have all the plumbing laid out, we decided that we needed to make some changes. One of those is getting my internet moved now that the addition is dried in and finished on the outside. With moving the internet, I will now have a new office space. My desk will be here Wednesday of this week and I am decluttering and will be putting stuff that is un-needed up for sale on the local market place. That being said, a special gift came today and I'm super excited. I am one lucky Mama! My oldest son had ordered me a new HP laptop for Christmas and it showed up today. I can't wait to get started on it. With the upgrades for graphics and video, it will make my life much easier. Yep, I'm bragging. I have the best sons ever! Each brings something great into my life. Always an adventure and each one has great qualities. My oldest son though, takes after mama. Always dreaming, always planning, and always climbing for what he wants. Who knew when he was 1 years old, ( and yes at 1 he was walking, running, climbing- he started walking at 7 months) and climbed on every tall piece of furniture that he would never slow down! I'm super proud of him and his brothers! Stay tuned, much more is to come! If you have kids, take those brag moments to give them. They are always and forever our children no matter how old they are. Sheri....Windy Flat Farm It's been a very busy fall and winter around here. I just want to wish everyone a very happy new year. May this year be the year you finish those projects, start new ones, and kindle new and old relationships. We spent most of the fall and early part of winter prepping for all the cold weather. Between winterizing the animals, moving the ducks and chicks, we also shoveled large amounts of snow. When the weather was bad we worked on long over due projects that were piling up or got pushed to the way side. We did however, take time for ourselves. Gene and I managed to take some weekends off and have a little fun. One weekend we had dinner out in Boise at Chandlers Steakhouse and went and saw the Curtis Stigers concert at the Egyptian Theater. That was a great time. A little shopping here and there in the city, dinners with the boys, and some cozy time in front of the fire. With the holidays coming to an end, we're on to the next project on the house. Yes, slow and steady wins the race. We have some lofty goals for the next 90 days, and I can't wait to show you what is in store. We still have some finishing touches on the main part of the house and Eugene has wanted to fix the loft area for years. He managed to find a beautiful metal railing on one of the sale sites last spring. I thought he was crazy since it was super heavy and super long in one piece. Well between all the boys and our contractor they have managed to fit it and place it up in the loft. This week it gets finished and I can't wait to see the end result. This new year will be new ends for us. Finishing touches and finishing the house. Check out all the hard work and some of the fun in the slide below. In the mean time, we wish you the best that life has to offer and that you make this year the one that promotes good health, life, and family! Sheri.......Windy Flat Farm Howdy friends, yes I've been a bit behind on blogging. The last few weeks have been quite a whirlwind of busy-ness. With the weather being so beautiful and temps staying in the 70's we wanted to get everything done so we can take a real break during the start of fall weather. To say the least we are prepared that's for sure. All of our firewood is split and stacked, chimneys cleaned, garden cleaned up, and compost bins being filled with fall yard waste. I'm hoping next summer the compost really gives our gardens a jump start. Aside from fall prep, we painted the entire house exterior and garage. Speaking of the garage, we got that cleaned, organized, storage boxes labeled, and we once again can fit our truck in there for the winter. Yeah! So to give you an update on where the building is, we wanted all of the exterior done before winter set in so that's part of the reason why we started with painting once the siding was up. We spent most of August working on the painting, the front porch and overhang, and prepping. We now have the rough-in electrical complete and will be finished with insulation by the end of the week. Once that is done we are taking a bit of a break, then we will start the rough-in plumbing. We also had a big storm in September and watched as our poor neighbors worked to save their homes on the hill and cleaned up damage to our trees. Out here where we live we never know what will happen next. The best we can do is be prepared for anything and hope for the best. By the way, the neighbors all came out without any real damage. Homes saved, thank you rural and city fire staff and to our local community who acted fast. So, I think that will be where we end the year. For 2023, the plan is to be finished by spring and moved in before summer, at least we are hoping. Not all the end of summer and early fall has been work, work, work. We did take time for a quick weekend trip the last weekend of September to drive through northern Idaho and over to Glacier National Park in Montana. We attended my niece's wedding, and got to spend some time with a few of the kids, and went up and enjoyed the hot springs. Here's a few photos to give you an idea of how things have gone so far. I hope you enjoy! Sheri...Windy Flat Farm It never fails, the minute we get back into building the weather heats up. We just love these triple digits. Great! Now we can work half a day and maybe an hour in the evening right before bed. Such is life. So here we are again building and I am super excited with the way things are turning out. Once we have all of the outside finished we'll move to the inside and really get going. That being said, we are also going to take a break before the next phase of building. Slow and steady wins the race. Our contractor has done such a great job with fixing some screw ups and also piecing the addition together so it looks like it has always been there. Just what I was wanting. Building in this market is pretty spendy. We've reworked our plan several times to make our dollar stretch and still have all the amenities we want and need in our home. Each time I think we have it nailed down, something else comes up missing, (due to material shortage), outrageously priced items, or things just no longer works for the changes we have made. So slow and steady wins the race. I'll say it over and over. Now is not the time to just go all out. Taking our time and really searching for the right deals and prices makes all the difference in staying debt free. If we have to wait certain things out we do. That is part of why we have been moving like turtles. But hey, who else is going to make our house a home? We've worked long and hard to keep debt from stressing out our life and giving us no options but to work and work and never enjoy what we have and what we want to be able to do. It's never easy but the rewards are so worth it in the end. I've added a photo gallery to catch anyone new up to speed with where we started and where we are today. The outside is almost done, painting will begin as soon as we have a little cooler temps. I did however, paint all the trim and so it looks far more finished than if I waited. Enjoy, I'll keep you posted. Sheri....Windy Flat Farm We've been on hiatus for a bit, but we will be in full swing soon. Lumber will be showing up hopefully next week, and the siding will replace the ugly weather wrap, then painting begins. I say hiatus, but that really isn't the case, we've been busy with gardening, updating the chicken coop and working out our irrigation system that was full of holes.
4'th of July is next week and so we figured this is a great time for us to break away and explore. That story will come soon. We have some exciting things coming up and I can't wait to share them with you. For now this is just a quick update on where building is, and why we are where we are. Getting caught up with all the homestead stuff is a lot of work and we wanted to be ahead of it before we started working on the house again. Keep watching our page for what's coming next. Sheri...Windy Flat Farm. I love it when people say to me..." You work from home? I bet that's nice, being able to work in your pj's." Well that rarely happens.
Let's be honest, I'm in sales, no matter where I work I really need to be ready for a last minute call wanting to meet in person. What I do know is that when you're in the middle of home projects and homesteading, you really have to learn to be flexible. Are there days that I'd rather just be lazy? Sure, but that's also not my nature. I work well from home because I need to control my environment. I have less distractions and background noise doesn't really effect me. When I'm in work mode, I'm working, and that can be a problem in it's own way. Sometimes it's really hard to stop working. With us still in building phase, I find myself working from my office, to the living room on my laptop. I'm all over the place and I'm still productive, but I have to tell myself, "Hey stop working" or I might work into the night on ads, or graphics, or planning. Unfortunately me brain doesn't just shut off at 5pm. Now, I'm really not a TV person, so if when it comes on, there's lots of times I'll work on my laptop on numbers, projections, or graphics or social media. So working from home wasn't easy when I first started many years ago. I had to learn to be flexible. I had to learn to create safe spaces, quiet spaces, and don't bother me zones. It wasn't just me that had to learn to be flexible. It's been a learning curve for Eugene as well. Just because I'm sitting here working on something on my computer does not mean I'm available for every beck and call. It's not always easy but with us both being flexible, it's worked really well and it suites our life style. I not only work from home, but when we travel, (now Eugene is never really happy about that) but I'm flexible enough to work when he's resting, or we're just taking a break from out break. Being flexible is what makes our life work. Being flexible also cuts down on anxiety and stress. I plan for the what if scenarios. It allows my brain to say, it's ok that you have to stop this train of thought to work on another or go to a meeting, or to see a client. So if you are considering working from home, plan for it, and learn to be flexible. Sheri... Windy Flat Farm Hello friends! I'm back at it and I am getting caught up. It has been a long winter loaded with so much work, I've not been able to keep you updated, so I apologize. We have gotten lots done and dealt with snow, cold, and trying to get heat in the house.
We had the holidays with the kids, and now that it is spring we are ready to get back at it. The house did get dried in, we finished installing the wood stove, thanks to our friends at Comfort Zone, and our good friend who has helped Gene with the building. I started a ARMY Mom's group with other moms who are all trying to learn and understand basic training. Some of you may know that one of my son went and joined last fall. It's been very comforting being connected with other mothers who are coping with the stress of having a kid at basic. We've moved things from one section of the house to another, and re-organized over and over, (gotta love construction). With the warmer weather, I'm finally starting to feel refreshed and ready to stay on top of everything we have coming up. I'm adding photos to get you caught up on where we are and soon we will begin the plumbing and electrical rough in so we can possibly get the house finished by mid summer. Tata for now, stay tuned with all that is coming up. Sheri.....Windy Flat Farm We have water! That's right, now that the foundation work is done, we have gotten the water line and septic line cut in and put in to the addition. It's a bit slow going but we are taking our time. I have lot's of footage for you to see of the lines going in. As the rest of the dirt work gets done I'll add some more of that as well. Enjoy! I'm glad you are along for the progress.
