Oh boy winter makes grand adventures a bit on the wild side. Especially if you're driving. Eugene and I have been keeping up with all the winter chores here at Windy Flat Farm, but that isn't very exciting.
Traveling this time of year get's a little sketchy. So we decided that day tripp'n is the way to go. We've managed to sneak away up to one of our favorite spots to unwind and destress. In the little town of Cambridge, Idaho, you'll find a hidden gem. Mundo Hot Springs. An easy drive and about 35 minutes for us. If you've been looking for a place to escape, this might be your ticket. Mundo has a clean and updated hot spring pool that includes a smaller hot tub pool. With clear blue water that eases those muscles and the stiffness that winter tends to bring, it's the perfect escape on a local level. If you're planning on the weekend, call ahead. You'll need a reservation. Friday - Saturday is reservations only. So worth it. You'll enjoy the heated changing rooms, and they have a bistro that offers food starting in the late afternoons. Winter doesn't have to be so long and dreary, if you're not in Idaho, look for close options near you to find your escape. For more on Mundo Hot Springs.... www.mundohotsprings.com or call them at 208-257-3849 Get out and explore your own back yard! You'd be amazed at all there is around you, if you just look for grand adventures! Sheri...Windy Flat Farm

Summer is here and everyone is planning a great get away. Last summer for Eugene's birthday I planned a big trip to Las Vegas. I was a little worried using an online service to help. I searched and searched and landed on Viator. I have to say I was pretty impressed. I used Viator to book our helicopter tour of the Vegas Strip. It was awesome! They took care of everything. They sent a limo to our hotel room and drove us to the airport for the tour. I flight was booked and the tour was a hit. We had a blast, then they drove us back. They even messaged me ahead of time letting me know when to expect them. If you're looking for a great experience, I highly suggest taking a look at what they have to offer. Memorial Day weekend has always been open to summer fun. I just want to say how grateful we are for those who served to allow us all to have the freedom to live our life and enjoy those freedoms. Happy Memorial Day, and thanks to all those families who have sacrificed. Not all of our summer has been hard work and construction. We have managed to sneak away for some road tripping and adventure. As the hustle and bustle of the homestead got underway, I decided that we could not spend all of our time and days just working. Yes we are under the gun with the season but that doesn't mean we can't take time for ourselves. My last adventure post was at Sun Valley for Valentines Day. Directly after we really knuckled down and went head on with the remodel of what will eventually end up being our home. It was one thing after another to get to where we are now in the construction phase. Which by the way is waiting on trusses for the edition. Starting back in February we only made a few day trips to Boise and ventured out from time to time in between our build. Our first real weekend get away didn't take place until mid May when we ventured to Jackpot, Nevada and visited Shoshone Falls just out side the town of Twin Falls. It was a nice get away even if it was just the weekend. On Memorial day we drove family to Eastern Oregon and then spent the day up at the Sumpter Flea Market. It was great to get out in the sun and to finally be around other people as our area began to return to normal from the crazy times. June came and in our family it's Birthday Month, all month long. From the boys to Eugene. It also happens to be our Anniversary month. So in honor of it all we celebrated with birthday breakfast, concert tickets to Hells Canyon Jam up in Cambridge, Idaho, and a very special birthday trip for Eugene to Las Vegas. I figured it was time to share some of our road tripping, and hopefully soon we will have more planned and more to share. I hope you enjoy some of our photos on our grand adventures. Sheri....Windy Flat Farm Oh boy, the last couple of months have been overwhelming, exciting, and fun all wrapped up in a giant snowball. We decided, along with Gene's daughter and son-in-law to all meet for a fun weekend in Sun Valley, Idaho. The kids' idea and a great one at that. A few hour drive from our little town of Weiser. We left with no snow the day before to waking up to a snow storm heading for the Boise airport. It was a sketchy drive between Hwy 95 and the interstate to Boise. We reached the airport just in time to pick up the kids and make our way to Sun Valley. If you're a local you get a 30% discount for being an Idaho resident and staying and playing. A great incentive. We were fortunate that once we got outside of Boise the roads cleared up and the drive was rather pleasant. Once reaching our destination, we had some time to unwind before our dinner. Our first night's dinner was at Gretchen's at the Lodge and it was wonderful. If you haven't taken the time to explore Idaho, you should. There are so many amazing places. Sun Valley is one of them. It's a skier's wonderland, amongst many other outdoor and indoor activities. We don't ski but the kids do so we both had a great time. While they were out skiing we were shopping, exploring, and walking in the cold sunshine. Even at 15 degrees it feels great as long as the sun shines. Our second night in Sun Valley we ate at the Ram. It has a long history with Sun Valley. The Ram is the oldest restaurant and has been serving locals and guest since 1937. The food was exquisite along with the lemon drops! They serve $25 prime rib every Sunday. The group feasted on prime and I had to go for the fillet. Nothing beats a fillet minion. Each morning we walked down the village to the Austrian inspired bakery, Konditorei. They serve pastries, coffee, hot cocoa, and real breakfast food, it was wonderful. They managed to accommodate my food choices and have a homemade chai tea that is sugar free and is to die for. This is a must if you make it to Sun Valley! There was no better way to spend Valentine's Day this year. Maybe we'll make it an annual event. It was perfect timing for us to get away with all the activity and changes we are making here at Windy Flat Farm. Stay tuned for that. Now if the weather would cooperate and Mother Nature would remember it's spring. That would make life a bit less stressful. I hope you enjoy some of our pictures from the weekend get away. Oh did I mention the Inn at Sun Valley has a giant heated outdoor pool? It was the best! Sheri..........Windy Flat Farm This year has put a real damper on my travel plans. At least twice a year we take a longer trip. We often take mini weekend trips also. However, with the world going crazy that has yet to happen. I am grateful that we live in beautiful SW Idaho. Within an hour in any direction we can be in the mountains with all their glory or in downtown Boise. We have the best of all worlds when it comes to where we live, in my opinion.
So a couple of months ago I started creating day trips. Eugene has been a bit glum and not really motivated to do anything. However, that was not going to stop me. I'm tired of not having fun, feeling cooped up and just blah. As I am sure is 95% of the population at this time. I think it's time to day trip. If we can't make the trips to destinations we've been wanting to go then why not get out and explore some places close to home? The slide show above was some pictures from today and the last few weekends. We decided a drive would be good. There's a great little café off HWY 95 on the way to Indian Valley, ( Mesa) Idaho. Today we wandered up north to Cambridge, Idaho and then went further north to Indian Valley. There you will find Lakey's. Literally right on the road. You can't miss it. The day was not pretty with bright sun and glorious crisp new snow. With rain sprinkling down it was melting off the snow that was up there pretty fast. But It was still beautiful. There was low clouds and fog floating over the foothills. I love the drive to Cambridge and the upper country. Their little town has been doing some amazing things. They just built a new fire station, which I took pictures of it for the paper, they have gotten into the Christmas spirit by dressing up their business fronts, and have lit up their water tower with Christmas lights. It's quite amazing to see. We also stopped by Mundo hot springs. They have been closed for quite a few months now for rebuilding their bistro and office. Their hot spring pool is awesome. They are hoping to be finished soon and I can't wait. I got to tour the new building and it is amazing. The whole thing is heated by geo thermal water. They did a great job. From there we went onto Lakey's for a quick bite. I love that they are willing to make anything I want to fit into my CodeRed lifestyle. No questions asked, they just do it. While there, I took pictures of their little banquet room. It's so cute and quaint and I love the simplicity of how they decorated it. Reminded me of old times. Last weekend I spent Saturday taking pictures for the paper of Santa and a bunch of kids that won a coloring contest that the paper puts out each year. Also we made a donation to Santa for HoHo Express. A local charity that takes school kids Christmas shopping, really what would this be if I didn't add in Christmas. Then we've made several day trips to the Village in Meridian, Idaho. The Light show in Boise, and the light show in Caldwell, Idaho. There are plenty of things to do and see, if you just decide to go and explore. Get out and wander around your town and the towns around you and enjoy some old fashioned day tripping!
