Happy Saturday! I usually meal prep on Sundays but I figured I'd take the morning while Eugene is sleeping in to do my weekly meal prep. Today I decided on breakfast quiche. Quick and easy and so good. If you love quiche you'll love this rendition of the classic quiche. So let's get started. You will need the following ingredients. 6- large eggs 1/3 block of cream cheese room temp. 1/2 cup of heavy whipping cream 1 cup of real bacon crumbles. ( I cheat and use Kirkland brand). 1/2 bag of frozen pepper and onion blend. That's it. Use a glass pie pan and butter the sides and bottom, Place the bacon crumbles around the bottom like a crust would be. Beat all your eggs with the room temperature cream cheese, and heavy whipping cream. Mix in veggies then pour into the pie pan. Place in a 400 degree oven for 30-40 minutes or until puffed up and golden. Remove from oven let set for about 15 minutes to complete set up. That's it. Enjoy as a breakfast side or as a stand alone. You can use any variety of veggies you like. Last week I made one for dinner that included spinach, cherry tomatoes, and black olives. You're gonna love it!

So you start down this journey and you're wondering how long do you have to keep on eating this way? It doesn't matter what plan you choose, CodeRed, Keto, Whole 30, Paleo, or doing OMAD. The question isn't loosing weight it's keeping it off. First of all you have to find a plan that works for you. Do you like what you are eating? Are you loosing weight and thinning down? If the answer is yes, then why change what you are consuming?
No one says you can't enjoy a few things off your plan from time to time once you reach the weight you want to be at but if you think you are going back to your old ways and are going to keep it off the answer to that is no, no you won't and no you'll never not be able to go off plan. Stop yo-yo'ing and start realizing that once you get the weight off you can add other things back in. If you see your weight go up or clothes getting tighter then, you know you need to self correct. I personally love the food that I eat. When I am at goal weight I stick to a 90/10 rule. I continue to eat from my approved foods 90 percent of the time and have other things 10 percent of the time. When I say time I say weekly. If I go over that 10 percent, I typically will gain, and that really annoys me. But it's easier to maintain your weight if you are conscious of what you are allowing into your daily diet. Lack of activity and extra calories, or junk food will bring that weight back to you 10 fold. There's no getting away from you and your bad habits. Oh and I can say I have plenty of them and have to keep myself in check. I do however feel better than I have in years and that is what I was truly after. So you either do it or you don't. But later you'll have to face the fact and the merry-go-round just keeps going round unless you choose to stop it. Set your goals clear and keep at it. No food is worth struggling health wise or bouncing up and down constantly. Maybe I should also say no food or drink is worth that. Keep at it, you'll find your way! I did. If I can do it so can you! Sheri...Windy Flat Farm. PS- From the photos below, do I look deprived? I think not! Wow, I can't believe it is the last day of the month of January. Whoohoo, only one and a half months and winter will be history. While I really don't mind the cold, I am super excited for spring, gardens, and warmer temps.
I wanted to be ready for spring. So I decided to dedicate the last 30 days to getting back below my goal weight. Since beginning the CodeRed Lifestyle in 2020 I have done a really great job maintaining my weight. Last fall was the first time I jumped up above where I should be and where I wanted to be. But that's the great thing about CodeRed. 30 days of dedication and getting your mind cleared up from negativity, doubt, and the funk, and boom.... You're right back where you should be. So how did I do? since January 2nd I'm down 7. 6 pounds and back below goal weight. I couldn't have been happier. I focused on sleep, water, and food. Super easy! Now I'm getting back into weight training and lifting and building stamina. I really want to get back to being toned up and looking and feeling my best. So if you've been thinking of doing something, then get to doing. Start with just one day and keep going for 30. You'll be amazed at what can happen! Pick just one thing and focus your energy on that. If you're interested in learning more, please reach out to me or check out the CodeRed lifestyle online. www.coderedlifestyle.com Keep at it! Sheri....Windy Flat Farm I hear everyday just how expensive food has gotten to be. Especially meat and vegetables. This can make eating right very difficult. I get it. Every time I walk in the store I think, "Really? Again?" Price increases seem to never let up. This can make sticking to your clean eating plan very difficult.
So what can you do? I spend a lot of time price comparing. It's a lot easier now that weekly specials are online. You'd be amazed at how much money I save by researching just 3 or 4 different stores. The biggest problem is remembering to do it. Now that most grocery stores no longer send out their circulars via the newspapers or the mail, we tend to forget to check. ( Which I totally believe is planned, because then you get stuck with these high prices.) This can really limit you if you are living on a tight budget. Things aren't getting easier. So I challenge you to start doing some research on prices to your local grocers. I'll give you an example. I love Tri-Tip. However, the price is crazy expensive compared to just a couple of years ago. The average price of this cut can run between $9.99 a pound all the way up. That's pretty pricy. So I did a little leg work and found a great deal at the meat counter only at Albertsons. I paid only $4.99lb! That is huge savings! Recently Ridley's Family Market had their $5 Friday deal. They had 1.5lb packages of extra lean ground beef for $5 a pack. That works out to $3.33lb! Compare that to $4.99 - $5 or $6 a pound. Every penny ads up. So I went in and bought nothing but ground beef. Now I'm stocked up on that cut. I buy extra cuts that are on sale and I freeze the meat in saver bags so it lasts the longest. Take the time to really get the best deals. It really can mean the difference between eating junk and eating healthy. I practice what I preach! Happy shopping. Sheri... Windy Flat Farm
I thought I would give you some direction on where to find the mini waffle maker that I use. I get lots of questions as to which one I use and where I got it. I love the fact that they have such great kitchen devices now and they are so handy for the lifestyle that I have. It took me a while to find just the right waffle maker but I decided on the dash. I love it, and it cleans up super easy and it was very inexpensive. If you're interested in purchasing one, you can find it on Amazon, I've added a link for quick access.
One of my favorite waffles is a wonder waffle. I've added the recipe just for you. This recipe will make 6 waffles so you can freeze them and have them on a busy morning. I hope you enjoy! 6 Tbsp. Ground Flax meal 3 Tbsp. mayonnaise 1 Tbsp. Avocado Oil 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1 Large egg 1/4 cup monk fruit sweetener. Mix and drop onto your mini dash waffle maker. Freeze the extras for later. Sheri... Windy Flat Farm After joining the Code Red Revolution, I was on a mission to create the perfect Keto Meatloaf. I tried lots of different ingredients in order to get that real meatloaf bulk. I didn't want it to fall apart or not cook up and hold it's shape, and taste good. After a year of failed meatloaf recipes, I finally came up with the best replacement for bread crumbs. I needed that real meatloaf taste and feel. I don't know about you but texture is kind of important for me. I love comfort foods, and for somethings there really is no replacement. Like a mac and cheese. Sorry but cauliflower just doesn't cut it nor do you get that real mac and cheese taste. But this one is the jackpot. It's super simple and you use an ingredient you really wouldn't expect. With this recipe you can make meatballs, mini stuffed loafs with cream cheese and peppers. It is divine. Bake in the oven or in your air fryer. Check out the recipe below. I know you're going to love it! Crazy Good Keto Meatloaf 2 lbs ground beef or turkey/chicken 2 raw eggs seasonings to your liking, (I use Italian or a steak seasoning mix) 1/2 cup hemp hearts 4 tbsp. liquid aminos or Worcestershire sauce ( I use Braggs) 1/2 cup chopped onion - you can also add bell peppers Mix everything together place in loaf pan. Bake covered with aluminum foil in a 375 degree oven for about 45 to 50 minutes. After that remove foil and drain off fat and liquid. Please don't drain this down your sink. It will create clogs from the fat. I drain the fat and excess liquid off into a mason jar and then allow to cool and then throw away in the trash. Place back in the oven for about 15 minutes then top with sugar free catchup or sugar free BBQ sauce, (I love Sweet Baby Rays). Bake until crisp around edges and topping is baked. Super good just like what Mom use to make. Enjoy! If you are looking for hemp hearts you can find them in most grocery stores or in the link below on Amazon. I order mine through both Amazon and Thrive Market. I buy a lot of my go to items through Thrive Market because I get the best deals from them. You can check them out through the link on the side bar and save money off your first order! I posted photos of the ingredients and steps below. Keep reading to find them. Sheri... Windy Flat Farm This is one of my favorite recipes for CodeRed or Keto. These waffles are super easy to make and are quite versatile. I use them for Breakfast, or for sandwiches. Who says you can't have a great burger or avocado toast on Keto or CodeRed? There's so many great food choices out there that will keep you to your goals. CR Protein Waffles 3 tbs. Ground Flax 1 tbs. Ground Chia Seed 2 tbs. Hemp Seed 1/8 tsp. Baking powder 1 Large egg 3 tbs. Coconut oil ( you can use any oil) 2 tbs. Monk fruit sweetener- optional Mix well, if the batter gets super thick you can thin it down a bit with water. This recipe will make 3 to 4 mini waffles. I like to triple the batch and then freeze waffles for later or quick meals. I know it sounds a little funny but they really are good and hold together well. The best part they are packed with protein and good fats. Enjoy! If you're looking for a mini waffle maker, I use a dash. I've attached a link to Amazon where I purchased one. Plus it's really inexpensive. This Idaho weather! It sure has been a wild spring. Who would have thought we'd still be burning wood right up to the last day of May? I haven't seen such cold temperatures since I was a kid. It does happen here though. I am looking forward to warmer days. I won't complain though since it has been so good for the garden.
Just like the weather always changing, so is my clean eating. We all go through ups and downs and there isn't anyone alive who doesn't crave something yummy. I've decided it's time to recommit to eating clean. I've slacked off and it's time to get back at it. So the question is, "How easy is it to just jump back into it?" Is CodeRed so simple that you can just switch gears? Just like riding a bike, right? It should be, but really this is about mind set. Your mind has be in the game. You have to just do it. Push through the cravings and get back on track. And yes, it really is that easy. Since I eat approved foods 90% of the time. however the cold weather has kept me from being as active as I should and cravings have increased. So enough is enough. America doesn't have a weight loss problem, we have a weight gain problem. Most people don't know how to keep it off. So follow along as I continue my clean life style so you can learn how to keep off the weight for good, and stay healthy and fit. If you're interested in learning more about CodeRed, check it out here. www.coderedlifestyle.com I am not an affiliate of CodeRed, however I will promote what I believe in. This is where I took my life back. So if you are looking for a better life, better health, and a new you. That is where you'll find it. Speaking of bikes. I bought both Eugene and I bikes at an auction. I'm super excited to be able to get back into some exercise that I love and that we can do together. I'll have some updates on that soon. Keep working on getting fit, it's your body and you only have one! Sheri...Windy Flat Farm It seems that this winter has come early. With the new year already half way through January it's been cold, really cold. Snow came early around Christmas and decided this year to stick around.
With single digit temps for weeks and then crawling into the teens and low 20's it's hard to want to do much of anything. Winters like these get people's nerves raw fast. In the old days they called it Cabin Fever. Today there are many terms for the winter blues, but it seems we've gotten them earlier than normal. What can you do? How do you keep motivated and ambitious with just day to day activities when we all just want to stay curled up in the covers? Yes, even I struggle with this. First - and foremost is sleep! I talk to people everyday and I hear the same thing. I'm not sleeping well. I wish I had a magic natural remedy for this but I don't. I use black out curtains in my room, I keep the temps cooler in our room, and use blue light glasses. I struggle with getting enough sleep and while these things have helped, I still had to ad a sleep aid and natural vitamins to help with this. Please consult your doctor before taking anything. I'm not telling you what to take or how. That will be up to them. Second- Drink your water! You'll spend less time in the kitchen grazing in the evenings if you get your water in. I drink a gallon a day, even in the winter. Winter time many people actually get dehydrated easier cause your not as thirsty. Drink your water. Third- Get up, get dressed, shower, look your best. Don't just get up and wander into something to wear. Looking your best everyday helps with mood. There's no way you can't look in the mirror and say "wow I look good today!" Fourth- Exercise, even if it's just walking. Get your body moving and the blood flowing. Walking is great for you heart and lung health, among many other great benefits that your health care provider can verify for you. Keep moving it will help with the sniffles. Now's a great time to refocus that new year resolution and make a life style change. I love working out in the winter, it's not easy but I know it's great for my longevity. I've got friends that use mood lamps, who tan, who just get out once the sun comes out and soak up some rays. Inversion times make the latter pretty difficult. So pick what you think will work best for you. I know I'm very much like a plant and need so much sun and so much water in order to feel really good and not wilted. So, for now I'm working on all 4 things myself in order to beat the winter blues. Hang tight we only have 30 more days to be past the worst of winter, at least we hope! Sheri....Windy Flat Farm
It's been a while since I've added an update to the homestead. Things have been crazy busy around here. I know, I know, we are always busy. With such a busy life, how do I make time to prepare and make good healthy meals that fit into my CodeRed Lifestyle?
I've learned a few tricks along the way. While I do make some meals that do take quite some time to prepare, my daily schedule just doesn't work that way normally. I've really taken the time to search companies that can really help. One of my favorites is Thrive Market. They carry so many different products that are organic and sugar free.
